A new webring for Montessori, homeschool, and related educational websites! Maria Montessori was an Italian physician who set up day care centers, and put materials in them to keep children occupied. She discovered that certain materials fostered learning. This was the beginning of a very long career learning how to educate children best. Her "schools" are not designed to structure time as most schools are. Instead, they structure the environment. There are multiple materials that children use and manipulate that lead to learning. A child in a good Montessori school will achieve far beyond students in other schools for a lot of reasons. Children also learn independence in learning, and excellent social skills. Ultimately, Montessori spent some years in India, and continued to publish books there. Her books are full of wisdom, and form a good guide toward a workable homeschooling philosophy.
