Schutzhund is German for "protection dog." Originally created in the early 1900s, Schutzhund was a form of dog performance trials to ensure that German Shepherds didn't lose their superior performance edge. Nowadays, Schutzhund is no longer limited to German Shepherds, in fact, most police and search&rescue forces use it as criteria for pooches accepted as working dogs. Breeds that compete in Schutzhund include German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Giant Schnauzers, Bouvier des Flandres, Dutch Shepherd Dogs, American Bulldogs, and Boxers. | |
